| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Polly and Murry Bowden of Houston have been named |

| 7 | 8 | | Neighborhood Centers in recognition of their philanthropic |

|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1907, Neighborhood Centers is today a |

| 10 | 11 | | network of more than 60 service sites that benefit emerging |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | neighborhoods in 48 counties across Texas; the organization named |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | its most prestigious award after its esteemed founder; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Murry Bowden is chair and chief executive officer of |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Hanover Company, a real estate investment firm that specializes in |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | the development of multifamily residential properties; highly |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | engaged in civic life, he has given generously of his time and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | expertise not only to Neighborhood Centers, but also to United Way |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | of Greater Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, Holocaust Museum |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Houston, the National Football Foundation, and the College Football |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Hall of Fame; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Raised in West Texas, Mr. Bowden is a graduate of |

| 22 | 23 | | Dartmouth College and The University of Texas School of Law; he was |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003 and was |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | honored by the Ivy Football Association in 2011 as an Ivy League |

| 25 | 26 | | graduate who has become a leader in his profession; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Polly Bowden grew up in Northbrook, Illinois, and |

| 27 | 28 | | completed her bachelor's degree in journalism at the University of |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Colorado before going on to study at the Art Institute of Houston; a |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | sustaining member of the Junior League of Houston, she chaired the |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | organization's first Habitat for Humanity building project; she has |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | also volunteered extensively for the Kinkaid School, |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | CHI-St. Luke's Friends of Nursing, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the |

| 33 | 34 | | Houston--Bayou Bend Committee; and |

| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Through their many endeavors in behalf of their |

| 35 | 36 | | community, Polly and Murry Bowden have contributed significantly to |

| 36 | 37 | | the quality of life in Houston, and they have earned the deep |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | respect and appreciation of their fellow citizens; now, therefore, |

| 39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 16, 2017, as Polly and Murry |
