H.R. No. 353
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Polly and Murry Bowden of Houston have been named
the recipients of the Alice Graham Baker Crusader Award by
Neighborhood Centers in recognition of their philanthropic
leadership; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1907, Neighborhood Centers is today a
network of more than 60 service sites that benefit emerging
neighborhoods in 48 counties across Texas; the organization named
its most prestigious award after its esteemed founder; and
WHEREAS, Murry Bowden is chair and chief executive officer of
Hanover Company, a real estate investment firm that specializes in
the development of multifamily residential properties; highly
engaged in civic life, he has given generously of his time and
expertise not only to Neighborhood Centers, but also to United Way
of Greater Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, Holocaust Museum
Houston, the National Football Foundation, and the College Football
Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Raised in West Texas, Mr. Bowden is a graduate of
Dartmouth College and The University of Texas School of Law; he was
inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003 and was
honored by the Ivy Football Association in 2011 as an Ivy League
graduate who has become a leader in his profession; and
WHEREAS, Polly Bowden grew up in Northbrook, Illinois, and
completed her bachelor's degree in journalism at the University of
Colorado before going on to study at the Art Institute of Houston; a
sustaining member of the Junior League of Houston, she chaired the
organization's first Habitat for Humanity building project; she has
also volunteered extensively for the Kinkaid School,
CHI-St. Luke's Friends of Nursing, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the
Houston--Bayou Bend Committee; and
WHEREAS, Through their many endeavors in behalf of their
community, Polly and Murry Bowden have contributed significantly to
the quality of life in Houston, and they have earned the deep
respect and appreciation of their fellow citizens; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize February 16, 2017, as Polly and Murry
Bowden Day and congratulate the Bowdens on their receipt of the
Alice Graham Baker Crusader Award from Neighborhood Centers; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Bowden as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
