H.R. No. 384 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The members of Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Houston are joining together on May 7, 2017, to honor Dr. Andrew M. Landry Sr. for 10 years of dedicated service to that congregation; and WHEREAS, Long affiliated with the church, Dr. Landry was licensed to preach in 1993 and ordained seven years later; he was appointed pastor in 2007, the same year that he earned his doctoral degree in divinity from the Inter-Baptist Theological Center in Houston; he also holds doctorates from the Inter-Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisiana and from the Conroe Theological Institute; and WHEREAS, Dr. Landry has served his faith in a number of leadership positions, including dean for the Conroe Baptist Theological Institute Houston Extension and president and dean of Mt. Zion Travelers Seminary; in addition, he has been first vice president of the American Progressive Baptist Association of Texas and dean of the Union Baptist District Association of Texas; he has also volunteered as a chaplain for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and he has taught at both the Open Door Mission homeless shelter and the Canal Street Apartments for low-income adults; and WHEREAS, This inspiring clergyman has led Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church with conviction and compassion, and he has earned the lasting respect and admiration of his congregants as well as members of the greater community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby honor Dr. Andrew M. Landry Sr. for his outstanding decade-long tenure with Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Landry as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
