| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created |

| 9 | 10 | | by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 to recognize campuses |

| 10 | 11 | | that have demonstrated overall academic excellence or made notable |

| 11 | 12 | | progress in improving outcomes among disadvantaged students; the |

| 12 | 13 | | Talkington School was one of only 279 public schools nationwide to |

| 13 | 14 | | have earned this impressive honor in 2016; and |

| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Established by the Young Women's Preparatory |

| 15 | 16 | | Network in 2008, the school currently serves more than 400 students |

| 16 | 17 | | in 6th through 12th grades in the Lubbock Independent School |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | District; ably led by principal Berta Fogerson, the school's |

| 18 | 19 | | outstanding faculty and staff work tirelessly to foster a |

| 19 | 20 | | tight-knit community and to promote high academic expectations; |

| 20 | 21 | | initiatives such as the Big Sister, Little Sister mentoring program |
