| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Nathan Brehm is being presented with an |

| 7 | 8 | | at the organization's 21st annual awards banquet on February 16, |

| 8 | 9 | | 2017; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A senior at Richard King High School, Samuel Brehm |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | currently ranks third in a class of 430 students; his myriad |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | scholastic accomplishments include advancing to the University |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Interscholastic League area competition in math and science, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | serving as captain of the KEDT Challenge team, qualifying for the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | 2017 Texas Academic Decathlon, and captaining the King Science Bowl |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | team, which has been invited to compete in the U.S. Department of |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Energy National Science Bowl; he has also participated in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Destination Imagination since the third grade, and his team has |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | twice progressed to the program's global finals; the current vice |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | president of Mu Alpha Theta, he was 1 of only 18 students worldwide |

| 20 | 21 | | to earn a perfect score on the Advanced Placement Calculus AB exam |

| 21 | 22 | | in 2016; after graduation, he plans to attend Rice University and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | pursue a double major in mechanical engineering and physics; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In addition to excelling academically, Mr. Brehm |

| 24 | 25 | | has demonstrated a significant talent for the arts; he is a member |

| 25 | 26 | | of the King High concert and jazz bands and a trumpet section leader |

| 26 | 27 | | for the Mighty Mustang Marching Band; an accomplished pianist as |

| 27 | 28 | | well, he has had the honor of playing at Carnegie Hall six times, |

| 28 | 29 | | and his musical talents have frequently taken him to the UIL state |

| 29 | 30 | | competition; moreover, he has danced with the Corpus Christi Ballet |

| 30 | 31 | | since he was five years old, performing in The Nutcracker for 13 |

| 31 | 32 | | years as well as in several other ballets, and he has garnered a |

| 32 | 33 | | number of solo roles; Mr. Brehm is also an Eagle Scout and a Sea |

| 33 | 34 | | Scout, and he has been actively involved with St. Philip the |

| 34 | 35 | | Apostle Catholic Church as an altar server and a Eucharistic cross |

| 35 | 36 | | bearer; and |

| 36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Through his remarkable perseverance in the pursuit |

| 37 | 38 | | of his goals, this outstanding young Texan has become a source of |

| 38 | 39 | | pride for the Corpus Christi community, and his exceptional |

| 39 | 40 | | abilities and unwavering commitment to excellence truly merit |

| 41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Samuel Nathan Brehm on his receipt |
