 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Samuel Nathan Brehm is being presented with an
 Academic Achievement Award by LULAC Council No. 1 in Corpus Christi
 at the organization's 21st annual awards banquet on February 16,
 2017; and
 WHEREAS, A senior at Richard King High School, Samuel Brehm
 currently ranks third in a class of 430 students; his myriad
 scholastic accomplishments include advancing to the University
 Interscholastic League area competition in math and science,
 serving as captain of the KEDT Challenge team, qualifying for the
 2017 Texas Academic Decathlon, and captaining the King Science Bowl
 team, which has been invited to compete in the U.S. Department of
 Energy National Science Bowl; he has also participated in
 Destination Imagination since the third grade, and his team has
 twice progressed to the program's global finals; the current vice
 president of Mu Alpha Theta, he was 1 of only 18 students worldwide
 to earn a perfect score on the Advanced Placement Calculus AB exam
 in 2016; after graduation, he plans to attend Rice University and
 pursue a double major in mechanical engineering and physics; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to excelling academically, Mr. Brehm
 has demonstrated a significant talent for the arts; he is a member
 of the King High concert and jazz bands and a trumpet section leader
 for the Mighty Mustang Marching Band; an accomplished pianist as
 well, he has had the honor of playing at Carnegie Hall six times,
 and his musical talents have frequently taken him to the UIL state
 competition; moreover, he has danced with the Corpus Christi Ballet
 since he was five years old, performing in The Nutcracker for 13
 years as well as in several other ballets, and he has garnered a
 number of solo roles; Mr. Brehm is also an Eagle Scout and a Sea
 Scout, and he has been actively involved with St. Philip the
 Apostle Catholic Church as an altar server and a Eucharistic cross
 bearer; and
 WHEREAS, Through his remarkable perseverance in the pursuit
 of his goals, this outstanding young Texan has become a source of
 pride for the Corpus Christi community, and his exceptional
 abilities and unwavering commitment to excellence truly merit
 special recognition; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Samuel Nathan Brehm on his receipt
 of an Academic Achievement Award from LULAC Council No. 1 and
 extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Brehm as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
