5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Kim Ogg was sworn in as Harris County district |

6 | 7 | | attorney on New Year's Day, 2017, and this occasion provides a |

7 | 8 | | welcome opportunity to celebrate her many outstanding achievements |

8 | 9 | | over the course of an already distinguished career; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Ms. Ogg earned a bachelor's |
---|
10 | 11 | | degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin in 1981 |
---|
11 | 12 | | and a law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1986; early in |
---|
12 | 13 | | her career, she served as a chief felony prosecutor in the Harris |
---|
13 | 14 | | County District Attorney's Office, and in 1994, she became the |
---|
14 | 15 | | first director of the Mayor's Anti-Gang Task Force, where she |
---|
15 | 16 | | played a vital role in reducing gang violence in Houston by 40 |
---|
16 | 17 | | percent; from 1999 until 2006, Ms. Ogg served as executive director |
---|
17 | 18 | | of Crime Stoppers of Houston, a leading anonymous crime-tip hotline |
---|
18 | 19 | | and reward program; she went on to work in private practice, first |
---|
19 | 20 | | with McFall, Breitbeil & Shults and then with the Ogg Law Firm; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has garnered a number of |
---|
21 | 22 | | prestigious accolades over the years, including a national award |
---|
22 | 23 | | from the Foundation for Improvement of Justice, a commendation from |
---|
23 | 24 | | the Houston Police Department, the Steve Chaney Distinguished |
---|
24 | 25 | | Service Award from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Crime |
---|
25 | 26 | | Victim Clearinghouse, the Allied Professional Award from the |
---|
26 | 27 | | Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime, and the Public |

27 | 28 | | Service Award from the South Texas College of Law; and |

28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Ogg has enjoyed the love |

29 | 30 | | and support of her partner of 32 years, Olivia Jordan, and their |

30 | 31 | | son, Jack; and |

31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through her professionalism, skill, and commitment |

32 | 33 | | to justice, Kim Ogg has greatly benefited the people of Harris |

33 | 34 | | County, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her myriad |

34 | 35 | | accomplishments as she takes on the challenges and opportunities of |
