45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Kim Ogg was sworn in as Harris County district
67 attorney on New Year's Day, 2017, and this occasion provides a
78 welcome opportunity to celebrate her many outstanding achievements
89 over the course of an already distinguished career; and
910 WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Ms. Ogg earned a bachelor's
1011 degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin in 1981
1112 and a law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1986; early in
1213 her career, she served as a chief felony prosecutor in the Harris
1314 County District Attorney's Office, and in 1994, she became the
1415 first director of the Mayor's Anti-Gang Task Force, where she
1516 played a vital role in reducing gang violence in Houston by 40
1617 percent; from 1999 until 2006, Ms. Ogg served as executive director
1718 of Crime Stoppers of Houston, a leading anonymous crime-tip hotline
1819 and reward program; she went on to work in private practice, first
1920 with McFall, Breitbeil & Shults and then with the Ogg Law Firm; and
2021 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has garnered a number of
2122 prestigious accolades over the years, including a national award
2223 from the Foundation for Improvement of Justice, a commendation from
2324 the Houston Police Department, the Steve Chaney Distinguished
2425 Service Award from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Crime
2526 Victim Clearinghouse, the Allied Professional Award from the
2627 Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime, and the Public
2728 Service Award from the South Texas College of Law; and
2829 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Ogg has enjoyed the love
2930 and support of her partner of 32 years, Olivia Jordan, and their
3031 son, Jack; and
3132 WHEREAS, Through her professionalism, skill, and commitment
3233 to justice, Kim Ogg has greatly benefited the people of Harris
3334 County, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her myriad
3435 accomplishments as she takes on the challenges and opportunities of
3536 her new position; now, therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby congratulate Kim Ogg on her election as Harris
3839 County district attorney and extend to her sincere best wishes for
3940 continued success; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for Ms. Ogg as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4243 House of Representatives.
