 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Kim Ogg was sworn in as Harris County district
 attorney on New Year's Day, 2017, and this occasion provides a
 welcome opportunity to celebrate her many outstanding achievements
 over the course of an already distinguished career; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Ms. Ogg earned a bachelor's
 degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin in 1981
 and a law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1986; early in
 her career, she served as a chief felony prosecutor in the Harris
 County District Attorney's Office, and in 1994, she became the
 first director of the Mayor's Anti-Gang Task Force, where she
 played a vital role in reducing gang violence in Houston by 40
 percent; from 1999 until 2006, Ms. Ogg served as executive director
 of Crime Stoppers of Houston, a leading anonymous crime-tip hotline
 and reward program; she went on to work in private practice, first
 with McFall, Breitbeil & Shults and then with the Ogg Law Firm; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has garnered a number of
 prestigious accolades over the years, including a national award
 from the Foundation for Improvement of Justice, a commendation from
 the Houston Police Department, the Steve Chaney Distinguished
 Service Award from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Crime
 Victim Clearinghouse, the Allied Professional Award from the
 Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime, and the Public
 Service Award from the South Texas College of Law; and
 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Ogg has enjoyed the love
 and support of her partner of 32 years, Olivia Jordan, and their
 son, Jack; and
 WHEREAS, Through her professionalism, skill, and commitment
 to justice, Kim Ogg has greatly benefited the people of Harris
 County, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her myriad
 accomplishments as she takes on the challenges and opportunities of
 her new position; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Kim Ogg on her election as Harris
 County district attorney and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Ogg as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
