| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Residents of the Fort Worth community lost an |

| 6 | 7 | | esteemed educator with the untimely passing of James Lee Wellman of |

| 7 | 8 | | Aledo on January 5, 2017, at the age of 47; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born to Bob and Carole Wellman on June 24, 1969, |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Jamie Wellman grew up in Kenova, West Virginia, with his two |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | brothers and two sisters; he earned his bachelor's degree at West |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Virginia State University and later continued his studies at Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Christian University, graduating with a master's degree in |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | education administration; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Wellman worked as a basketball and volleyball |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | coach at several high schools in his home state before moving to |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Fort Worth in 1998; after serving as a special education teacher and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | coach at Burleson High School, he went on to teach at |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Carter-Riverside High and South Hills High; in 2005 he joined the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | staff at Western Hills High School in Benbrook as an assistant |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | principal, and four years later, he was promoted to principal, a |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | role he fulfilled with distinction until his passing; in |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | recognition of his outstanding tenure with the school, the Fort |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Worth Independent School District Board of Trustees recently |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | decided to name the Western Hills field house in his honor; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, Mr. Wellman shared a |

| 26 | 27 | | rewarding marriage with his wife of two decades, Stephanie, and he |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | was tremendously proud of their son, Payne; an avid sports fan, |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Mr. Wellman enjoyed teaching his son to play golf as well as rooting |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | for his favorite teams, Marshall University, Texas Christian |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | University, and the Pittsburgh Steelers; he also treasured the |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | summers he spent with his loved ones on St. Simons Island in |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Georgia; and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Beloved for his warmth, his sense of humor, and his |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | ability to see the best in everyone, Jamie Wellman touched |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | countless lives during his journey on this earth, and all those who |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | had the privilege to know him will forever hold him close in their |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of James Lee Wellman |

| 40 | 41 | | and extend sincere condolences to his relatives, to his friends, |

| 41 | 42 | | and to the faculty, staff, and students of Western Hills High |
