| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Candace Bourland Hicks of Wolfforth is being |

| 7 | 8 | | annual Women of Excellence awards ceremony on March 9, 2017; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Created in 1989, the Women of Excellence awards |

| 9 | 10 | | honor individuals for their contributions as leaders and |

| 10 | 11 | | volunteers, highlighting the vital roles that women play in civic |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and professional endeavors in the Lubbock area; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, An esteemed audiologist, Dr. Hicks is a professor |

| 13 | 14 | | and the director of the Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Research at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center; |

| 15 | 16 | | throughout her distinguished tenure, she has demonstrated an |

| 16 | 17 | | outstanding commitment not only to seeing her students succeed but |

| 17 | 18 | | also to helping young people with hearing loss; and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, With her receipt of a Women of Excellence award, |

| 19 | 20 | | Dr. Candace Hicks joins an elite group of women who have been |

| 20 | 21 | | honored by the YWCA of Lubbock, and she is indeed a worthy role |

| 21 | 22 | | model for this and future generations; now, therefore, be it |

| 22 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
