H.R. No. 472
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Candace Bourland Hicks of Wolfforth is being
recognized with the Science Award by the YWCA of Lubbock at its
annual Women of Excellence awards ceremony on March 9, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Created in 1989, the Women of Excellence awards
honor individuals for their contributions as leaders and
volunteers, highlighting the vital roles that women play in civic
and professional endeavors in the Lubbock area; and
WHEREAS, An esteemed audiologist, Dr. Hicks is a professor
and the director of the Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing
Research at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center;
throughout her distinguished tenure, she has demonstrated an
outstanding commitment not only to seeing her students succeed but
also to helping young people with hearing loss; and
WHEREAS, With her receipt of a Women of Excellence award,
Dr. Candace Hicks joins an elite group of women who have been
honored by the YWCA of Lubbock, and she is indeed a worthy role
model for this and future generations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Candace Bourland Hicks on her
receipt of the 2017 Science Award from the YWCA of Lubbock and
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Hicks as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
