| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed attorney drew to a close with |

| 6 | 7 | | the passing of Morris Emmett Burton on October 24, 2016, at the age |

| 7 | 8 | | of 85; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Mason and Minnie Burton, Morris Burton |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | was born on June 17, 1931, and grew up in Somerset, Kentucky, with |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | the companionship of two sisters, Glenda and Edna; he graduated |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1954 and soon |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | thereafter answered his nation's call to duty as a member of the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | United States Air Force; he retired in 1956 at the rank of first |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | lieutenant; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Mr. Burton began |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | practicing law in Frankfort, Kentucky, and in 1984, he assumed the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | role of commonwealth's attorney, an office he held until retiring |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | in 2000; in recognition of his outstanding work, he was named the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | 1991 Commonwealth's Attorney of the Year; in addition, he was |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | active in his community as chair of the March of Dimes, as a member |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | of the advisory board of the local Salvation Army, as a member of |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | the Frankfort Kiwanis Club and the University of Kentucky Alumni |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Association, and as a congregant of the First United Methodist |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Church of Frankfort; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Burton enjoyed the love |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | and support of his wife, the former Marcia McDaniel, with whom he |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | shared 62 years of marriage; the couple were blessed with a fine |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | family that included three children, Beth Sturm and her husband, |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Larry, Sandra Burton and her husband, Rob Hoenscheid, and Greg |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | Burton and his wife, Jill, as well as five grandchildren, Jamie, |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Alex, Brady, Paige, and Bryce; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Morris Burton made a positive difference in many |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | lives through his professional and civic contributions, and he |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can remember |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | with pride; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Morris Emmett |

| 38 | 39 | | Burton and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and friends; |
