45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed attorney drew to a close with
67 the passing of Morris Emmett Burton on October 24, 2016, at the age
78 of 85; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Mason and Minnie Burton, Morris Burton
910 was born on June 17, 1931, and grew up in Somerset, Kentucky, with
1011 the companionship of two sisters, Glenda and Edna; he graduated
1112 from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1954 and soon
1213 thereafter answered his nation's call to duty as a member of the
1314 United States Air Force; he retired in 1956 at the rank of first
1415 lieutenant; and
1516 WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Mr. Burton began
1617 practicing law in Frankfort, Kentucky, and in 1984, he assumed the
1718 role of commonwealth's attorney, an office he held until retiring
1819 in 2000; in recognition of his outstanding work, he was named the
1920 1991 Commonwealth's Attorney of the Year; in addition, he was
2021 active in his community as chair of the March of Dimes, as a member
2122 of the advisory board of the local Salvation Army, as a member of
2223 the Frankfort Kiwanis Club and the University of Kentucky Alumni
2324 Association, and as a congregant of the First United Methodist
2425 Church of Frankfort; and
2526 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Burton enjoyed the love
2627 and support of his wife, the former Marcia McDaniel, with whom he
2728 shared 62 years of marriage; the couple were blessed with a fine
2829 family that included three children, Beth Sturm and her husband,
2930 Larry, Sandra Burton and her husband, Rob Hoenscheid, and Greg
3031 Burton and his wife, Jill, as well as five grandchildren, Jamie,
3132 Alex, Brady, Paige, and Bryce; and
3233 WHEREAS, Morris Burton made a positive difference in many
3334 lives through his professional and civic contributions, and he
3435 leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can remember
3536 with pride; now, therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Morris Emmett
3839 Burton and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and friends;
3940 and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4243 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Morris
4344 Burton.
