 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed attorney drew to a close with
 the passing of Morris Emmett Burton on October 24, 2016, at the age
 of 85; and
 WHEREAS, The son of Mason and Minnie Burton, Morris Burton
 was born on June 17, 1931, and grew up in Somerset, Kentucky, with
 the companionship of two sisters, Glenda and Edna; he graduated
 from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1954 and soon
 thereafter answered his nation's call to duty as a member of the
 United States Air Force; he retired in 1956 at the rank of first
 lieutenant; and
 WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Mr. Burton began
 practicing law in Frankfort, Kentucky, and in 1984, he assumed the
 role of commonwealth's attorney, an office he held until retiring
 in 2000; in recognition of his outstanding work, he was named the
 1991 Commonwealth's Attorney of the Year; in addition, he was
 active in his community as chair of the March of Dimes, as a member
 of the advisory board of the local Salvation Army, as a member of
 the Frankfort Kiwanis Club and the University of Kentucky Alumni
 Association, and as a congregant of the First United Methodist
 Church of Frankfort; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Burton enjoyed the love
 and support of his wife, the former Marcia McDaniel, with whom he
 shared 62 years of marriage; the couple were blessed with a fine
 family that included three children, Beth Sturm and her husband,
 Larry, Sandra Burton and her husband, Rob Hoenscheid, and Greg
 Burton and his wife, Jill, as well as five grandchildren, Jamie,
 Alex, Brady, Paige, and Bryce; and
 WHEREAS, Morris Burton made a positive difference in many
 lives through his professional and civic contributions, and he
 leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can remember
 with pride; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Morris Emmett
 Burton and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and friends;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Morris
 Burton.
