|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1974, the University of |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Houston--Downtown boasts more than 44,000 alumni and is meeting |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | higher education needs in an area that is home to a quarter of the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Texas population and that generates nearly a third of the state's |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | gross product; moreover, the university has generated $1.2 billion |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | in income for the regional economy; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, UHD educates approximately 14,400 students annually |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | with over 2,900 graduates each year; the university offers 52 |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | undergraduate and graduate academic programs, as well as 18 online |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | degree-completion opportunities; it is home to the top-ranked MBA |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | program in Houston, and U.S. News and World Report placed it 31st |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | on its list of Best Regional Colleges in the West; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the university has expanded its |

| 22 | 23 | | partnerships with Houston Community College, Lone Star College, and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | others to allow for greater transferability for students who wish |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | to earn degrees at UHD; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The student body at UHD is representative of the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | vibrant city of Houston; many of its scholars are first-generation |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | college students, and the university has earned national |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | designation as both a Hispanic Serving Institution and a Minority |
|---|

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the University of |
