H.R. No. 574
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jaclyn Marie Cavazos has been named a 2016 Corpus
Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in
the service and leadership category; and
WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished
Scholars program was established to reward local students who have
demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its
inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been
selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners
received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies;
and
WHEREAS, A student at Tuloso-Midway High School, Jaclyn
Cavazos ranks 15th in a class of 294 students and holds a 4.03 grade
point average; in addition to excelling academically, she has
served as an officer on the student council and in the Rotary
Interact Club and has participated in the Junior Engineering
Technical Society, Student Leadership Club, Discovery Club, and the
National Honor Society; moreover, she coaches a team of
kindergarten-aged girls in the Northwest Little Miss Kickball
league, and she has given generously of her time and talents to such
worthy groups as Toys for Tots, the PALS Animal Shelter, the Ark
Assessment Center & Emergency Shelter for Youth, and the local food
pantry; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued her goals
with tremendous dedication, and she may take great pride in all that
she has accomplished as she looks ahead to a future bright with
promise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Jaclyn Marie Cavazos on her
selection as a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas
Distinguished Scholar and extend to her sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Cavazos as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
