H.R. No. 578
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Trenton Wahlen has been named a 2016 Corpus Christi
Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in the
service and leadership category; and
WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished
Scholars program was established to reward local students who have
demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its
inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been
selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners
received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies;
and
WHEREAS, The son of Mike and Malynn Wahlen, "T. J." Wahlen is
a senior at Calallen High School, where he holds an impressive 5.80
grade point average and ranks second in his class of 263 students;
in addition to keeping up with his challenging academic course
load, he has participated in numerous extracurricular activities
and has served in such leadership roles as president of Business
Professionals of America and vice president of the National Honor
Society; he is also a member of three 4-H clubs and a senior altar
server at St. Thomas More Catholic Church; moreover, he is actively
involved with Helping Hands, an organization that distributes
hygiene products to the homeless, and with the local Rotary Club
adoption clinic; after graduation, he plans to work toward a career
in engineering; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals
with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that
he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with
promise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate T. J. Wahlen on his selection as a
2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished
Scholar and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Wahlen as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
