| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Hunter Gomez has been named a 2016 Corpus Christi |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished |

| 9 | 10 | | Scholars program was established to reward local students who have |

| 10 | 11 | | demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies; |
|---|

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Gomez is a senior at W. B. Ray High School, where |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | he has benefited from studying in the challenging International |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Baccalaureate Program; as a cadet in the Navy Junior ROTC, he serves |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | as team commander on the CyberPatriot Team, and during his junior |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | year, his team won the division competition and placed second in |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Texas; moreover, he has added to his technological expertise by |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | obtaining Microsoft Specialist certification; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, During his time in the Boy Scouts, Mr. Gomez gained |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | valuable leadership experience while earning the rank of Eagle |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Scout and membership in the Order of the Arrow; he further served |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | the organization by founding an honor guard that bears colors at |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | funerals and processions in the area; dedicated to his community, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | he volunteers weekly with his former troop and helps out with the |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Cattery, a local cat shelter; after graduation, he hopes to study |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | information technology at Texas A&M University, his mother's alma |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | mater, and to join the school's renowned Corps of Cadets; and |

| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals |

| 32 | 33 | | with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that |

| 33 | 34 | | he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with |
