H.R. No. 585
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Hunter Gomez has been named a 2016 Corpus Christi
Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in the
technology category; and
WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished
Scholars program was established to reward local students who have
demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its
inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been
selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners
received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gomez is a senior at W. B. Ray High School, where
he has benefited from studying in the challenging International
Baccalaureate Program; as a cadet in the Navy Junior ROTC, he serves
as team commander on the CyberPatriot Team, and during his junior
year, his team won the division competition and placed second in
Texas; moreover, he has added to his technological expertise by
obtaining Microsoft Specialist certification; and
WHEREAS, During his time in the Boy Scouts, Mr. Gomez gained
valuable leadership experience while earning the rank of Eagle
Scout and membership in the Order of the Arrow; he further served
the organization by founding an honor guard that bears colors at
funerals and processions in the area; dedicated to his community,
he volunteers weekly with his former troop and helps out with the
Cattery, a local cat shelter; after graduation, he hopes to study
information technology at Texas A&M University, his mother's alma
mater, and to join the school's renowned Corps of Cadets; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals
with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that
he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with
promise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Hunter Gomez on his selection as a
2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished
Scholar and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Gomez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
