| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The year 2016 marked the 65th anniversary of the |

| 6 | 7 | | founding of López Handy Stop in Robstown; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This convenience store was established in June 1951 |

| 8 | 9 | | by Manuel B. López, and in the ensuing years, nine additional |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | locations were opened in Robstown, Three Rivers, and San Diego, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Texas; dedicated to keeping the company a family business, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Mr. López eventually entrusted the stores to his children; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 2013, the founder's grandson Hector M. López Jr. |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | relocated from San Antonio after a career as a mortician to become |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the store's third-generation owner; the younger Mr. López spent |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | much of his adolescence working at the stores, where he learned |

| 16 | 17 | | every aspect of the business, from stocking and inventory to |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | bookkeeping and payroll; today, he proudly continues his family's |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | legacy in the Robstown community, and López Handy Stop employs a |

| 19 | 20 | | staff of eight; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Locally owned and operated businesses play a vital |

| 21 | 22 | | role in the prosperity of the Lone Star State, and those enterprises |

| 22 | 23 | | that build a record of dependability and longevity enjoy a special |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | degree of esteem in their communities; now, therefore, be it |

| 24 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 25 | 26 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 65th anniversary of López Handy |

| 26 | 27 | | Stop and extend to Hector López and his staff sincere best wishes |
