45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Robert Allan Ozment of Temple on November 7, 2016, at the
78 age of 85; and
89 WHEREAS, A Temple native, Robert Ozment was born to Ewing and
910 Sybil Chase Ozment on December 21, 1930, and he graduated in 1948
1011 from Temple High School; he met Ferol Dene Ellis while attending a
1112 film at the Arcadia Theater, and they were married on September 19,
1213 1952; the couple shared 64 rewarding years as husband and wife, and
1314 their life together was further enriched by their three children,
1415 Leenan Williams, Mary Kate Ozment, and Robert Ozment, as well as
1516 their four grandchildren, Case, Samantha, Natalie, and Carter; and
1617 WHEREAS, Mr. Ozment received a bachelor's degree in history
1718 from The University of Texas in 1959, and he later returned to UT to
1819 earn a master's degree in history in 1967; his master's thesis,
1920 "Temple, Texas, and the Great Depression," can still be consulted
2021 at the Temple Public Library; and
2122 WHEREAS, Over the course of a long and exemplary career as an
2223 educator, Mr. Ozment taught high school classes, primarily in
2324 upper-level mathematics, in the communities of Coleman, Temple,
2425 Austin, Rogers, and Belton; he also taught at Schreiner College and
2526 at Central Texas College, where he helped military personnel earn
2627 their high school equivalency certificates; and
2728 WHEREAS, Dedicated to history, politics, and social justice,
2829 Mr. Ozment remained active in his community throughout his life; he
2930 founded the Friends of Arcadia Theater, an organization focused on
3031 restoring the old movie palace where he and his wife met; in his
3132 spare time, he loved reading, playing golf, and listening to jazz
3233 and big band music; and
3334 WHEREAS, A loving family man, Robert Ozment will long be
3435 remembered for his sense of humor, his intelligence, and his
3536 kindness, and his outstanding record of service as an educator and
3637 an engaged citizen will continue to inspire all those who had the
3738 good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Allan Ozment
4041 and extend heartfelt sympathy to his many relatives and friends;
4142 and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4445 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert
4546 Ozment.
