| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of Robert Allan Ozment of Temple on November 7, 2016, at the |

| 7 | 8 | | age of 85; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A Temple native, Robert Ozment was born to Ewing and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Sybil Chase Ozment on December 21, 1930, and he graduated in 1948 |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | from Temple High School; he met Ferol Dene Ellis while attending a |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | film at the Arcadia Theater, and they were married on September 19, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | 1952; the couple shared 64 rewarding years as husband and wife, and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | their life together was further enriched by their three children, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Leenan Williams, Mary Kate Ozment, and Robert Ozment, as well as |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | their four grandchildren, Case, Samantha, Natalie, and Carter; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Ozment received a bachelor's degree in history |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | from The University of Texas in 1959, and he later returned to UT to |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | earn a master's degree in history in 1967; his master's thesis, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | "Temple, Texas, and the Great Depression," can still be consulted |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | at the Temple Public Library; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of a long and exemplary career as an |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | educator, Mr. Ozment taught high school classes, primarily in |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | upper-level mathematics, in the communities of Coleman, Temple, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Austin, Rogers, and Belton; he also taught at Schreiner College and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | at Central Texas College, where he helped military personnel earn |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | their high school equivalency certificates; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to history, politics, and social justice, |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Mr. Ozment remained active in his community throughout his life; he |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | founded the Friends of Arcadia Theater, an organization focused on |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | restoring the old movie palace where he and his wife met; in his |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | spare time, he loved reading, playing golf, and listening to jazz |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | and big band music; and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, A loving family man, Robert Ozment will long be |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | remembered for his sense of humor, his intelligence, and his |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | kindness, and his outstanding record of service as an educator and |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | an engaged citizen will continue to inspire all those who had the |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Allan Ozment |

| 40 | 41 | | and extend heartfelt sympathy to his many relatives and friends; |
