H.R. No. 694 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of Robert Allan Ozment of Temple on November 7, 2016, at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, A Temple native, Robert Ozment was born to Ewing and Sybil Chase Ozment on December 21, 1930, and he graduated in 1948 from Temple High School; he met Ferol Dene Ellis while attending a film at the Arcadia Theater, and they were married on September 19, 1952; the couple shared 64 rewarding years as husband and wife, and their life together was further enriched by their three children, Leenan Williams, Mary Kate Ozment, and Robert Ozment, as well as their four grandchildren, Case, Samantha, Natalie, and Carter; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ozment received a bachelor's degree in history from The University of Texas in 1959, and he later returned to UT to earn a master's degree in history in 1967; his master's thesis, "Temple, Texas, and the Great Depression," can still be consulted at the Temple Public Library; and WHEREAS, Over the course of a long and exemplary career as an educator, Mr. Ozment taught high school classes, primarily in upper-level mathematics, in the communities of Coleman, Temple, Austin, Rogers, and Belton; he also taught at Schreiner College and at Central Texas College, where he helped military personnel earn their high school equivalency certificates; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to history, politics, and social justice, Mr. Ozment remained active in his community throughout his life; he founded the Friends of Arcadia Theater, an organization focused on restoring the old movie palace where he and his wife met; in his spare time, he loved reading, playing golf, and listening to jazz and big band music; and WHEREAS, A loving family man, Robert Ozment will long be remembered for his sense of humor, his intelligence, and his kindness, and his outstanding record of service as an educator and an engaged citizen will continue to inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Allan Ozment and extend heartfelt sympathy to his many relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert Ozment.
