| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, For 25 years, the Cooke County Republican Women have |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This notable organization was established as an |

| 9 | 10 | | affiliate of the Texas Federation of Republican Women on October |

| 10 | 11 | | 21, 1991, by founders Shirley Newton, Ann Scivally, Monica Lamb, |

| 11 | 12 | | Maxine Cole, Edythe Rodgers, Essie Fae Scott, Audrey Silvernale, |

| 12 | 13 | | Mary Fellers, Rita McCreary, and Carol Washburn; the women were |

| 13 | 14 | | further aided by two experienced political volunteers and new |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | arrivals to Cooke County, Marcia Saunders and Pat Peale, whose |

| 15 | 16 | | knowledge and insight helped the club to become an active force in |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Under the guidance of Ms. Saunders and Ms. Peale, |

| 18 | 19 | | the Cooke County Republican Women coordinated grassroots |

| 19 | 20 | | activities to earn support for Republican candidates, and they also |

| 20 | 21 | | held fund-raisers and sought out prominent Republican speakers; |

| 21 | 22 | | their efforts were instrumental in turning the tide on the |

| 22 | 23 | | Democratic Party's long-standing dominance in Cooke County |

| 23 | 24 | | government, and within a decade and a half, almost all the elected |

| 24 | 25 | | offices in the county were held by Republicans; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Following the example of engaged citizenship set by |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | their founders, the Cooke County Republican Women continue to |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | promote a stronger party and a more unified, informed, and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | enthusiastic base of Republican voters, and they may take pride in |

| 29 | 30 | | their accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby honor the founders of the Cooke County |

| 32 | 33 | | Republican Women on the occasion of its 25th anniversary and extend |

| 33 | 34 | | to all those associated with the club sincere best wishes for the |
