H.R. No. 755 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, For 25 years, the Cooke County Republican Women have worked tirelessly to advance the goals and values of the Republican Party in Texas; and WHEREAS, This notable organization was established as an affiliate of the Texas Federation of Republican Women on October 21, 1991, by founders Shirley Newton, Ann Scivally, Monica Lamb, Maxine Cole, Edythe Rodgers, Essie Fae Scott, Audrey Silvernale, Mary Fellers, Rita McCreary, and Carol Washburn; the women were further aided by two experienced political volunteers and new arrivals to Cooke County, Marcia Saunders and Pat Peale, whose knowledge and insight helped the club to become an active force in local politics; and WHEREAS, Under the guidance of Ms. Saunders and Ms. Peale, the Cooke County Republican Women coordinated grassroots activities to earn support for Republican candidates, and they also held fund-raisers and sought out prominent Republican speakers; their efforts were instrumental in turning the tide on the Democratic Party's long-standing dominance in Cooke County government, and within a decade and a half, almost all the elected offices in the county were held by Republicans; and WHEREAS, Following the example of engaged citizenship set by their founders, the Cooke County Republican Women continue to promote a stronger party and a more unified, informed, and enthusiastic base of Republican voters, and they may take pride in their accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby honor the founders of the Cooke County Republican Women on the occasion of its 25th anniversary and extend to all those associated with the club sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Cooke County Republican Women as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
