| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, |

| 6 | 7 | | the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, and its |

| 7 | 8 | | dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly toward the goal of |

| 8 | 9 | | reducing the occurrence of cancer in our state by advocating for |

| 9 | 10 | | laws and policies that will make cancer a top priority; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Cancer will claim the lives of more than 40,000 |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Texans in 2017, and over 116,000 Texans will hear the words "You |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | have cancer" in this year alone; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Investment in cancer research has paid impressive |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | dividends, reducing the death rate and saving thousands of lives; |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, More than 300 Relay for Life events across the state |

| 17 | 18 | | engage local communities in working to raise awareness of public |

| 18 | 19 | | policy issues important to the fight against cancer; and |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network |

| 20 | 21 | | volunteers across Texas are engaged in many important activities to |

| 21 | 22 | | support the fight against cancer and assist those living with the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | disease, and they truly deserve our sincere thanks and praise; now, |

| 24 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 25 | 26 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 28, 2017, as American Cancer |

| 26 | 27 | | Society Cancer Action Network Day at the State Capitol and commend |

| 27 | 28 | | the organization and its devoted volunteers for their exceptional |
