H.R. No. 889
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network,
the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, and its
dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly toward the goal of
reducing the occurrence of cancer in our state by advocating for
laws and policies that will make cancer a top priority; and
WHEREAS, Cancer will claim the lives of more than 40,000
Texans in 2017, and over 116,000 Texans will hear the words "You
have cancer" in this year alone; and
WHEREAS, Investment in cancer research has paid impressive
dividends, reducing the death rate and saving thousands of lives;
and
WHEREAS, More than 300 Relay for Life events across the state
engage local communities in working to raise awareness of public
policy issues important to the fight against cancer; and
WHEREAS, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network
volunteers across Texas are engaged in many important activities to
support the fight against cancer and assist those living with the
disease, and they truly deserve our sincere thanks and praise; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize March 28, 2017, as American Cancer
Society Cancer Action Network Day at the State Capitol and commend
the organization and its devoted volunteers for their exceptional
work in fighting this deadly disease; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the network as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
