H.R. No. 918 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Alex Graves, Tex Mitchell IV, Aaron Walls, and Jake Yepez of Boy Scout Troop No. 410 in Austin took decisive action on July 23, 2016, that helped save the life of their troop leader; and WHEREAS, On that afternoon, the scouts were participating in a sailing race on Lake Belton when their troop leader, Tex Mitchell III, suddenly became weak and unable to control the boat; believing he was suffering from heatstroke, the boys, who were all between the ages of 11 and 14, drew on their knowledge of first-aid procedures, shielding him from the sun and cooling him with water; and WHEREAS, Despite minimal sailing experience, the scouts worked together in the moment of crisis to maneuver their 24-foot keelboat safely back to the marina; Mr. Mitchell was rushed to a local hospital, and after receiving treatment for a severe heart attack, he was able to make a full recovery; and WHEREAS, The calm and swift response of these fine young Texans played a vital role in averting a potential tragedy, and they have exemplified the highest ideals of the scouting movement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby commend Alex Graves, Tex Mitchell IV, Aaron Walls, and Jake Yepez of Boy Scout Troop No. 410 for their lifesaving actions on July 23, 2016, and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Scouts as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
