5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Kinnan Golemon, a nationally recognized figure in |

6 | 7 | | the field of environmental, natural resources, and energy law, is |

7 | 8 | | to be congratulated on a distinguished career that, as of 2017, has |

8 | 9 | | spanned 50 years; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, After earning a degree in industrial management |
---|
10 | 11 | | engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1961, Mr. Golemon |
---|
11 | 12 | | joined the U.S. Marine Corps and remained on active duty until 1964, |
---|
12 | 13 | | serving in Cuba, Okinawa, Taiwan, and Vietnam; he completed his |
---|
13 | 14 | | service with the corps in 1969 at the rank of captain; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, While attending The University of Texas School of |
---|
15 | 16 | | Law, Mr. Golemon worked for the Texas Water Pollution Control |
---|
16 | 17 | | Board, and after graduating in 1967, he embarked on a career as an |
---|
17 | 18 | | environmental lawyer; he went on to practice for 30 years with the |
---|
18 | 19 | | firm of Brown McCarroll in Austin, and in 2008 he became the founder |
---|
19 | 20 | | and president of a consulting firm, KG Strategies; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For the past half century, Mr. Golemon has provided |
---|
21 | 22 | | expert professional advice to the legislature and others on a wide |
---|
22 | 23 | | variety of complex environmental, energy, natural resources, and |
---|
23 | 24 | | economic issues; as general counsel for the Texas Chemical Council |
---|
24 | 25 | | from 1992 to 2006, he represented approximately 80 chemical |
---|
25 | 26 | | manufacturers; he has also chaired the State Bar of Texas |
---|
26 | 27 | | Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section, as well as the |
---|
27 | 28 | | American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy, and |
---|
28 | 29 | | Resources and the ABA Standing Committee on Environmental Law; in |
---|
29 | 30 | | addition, he has given generously of his time and energies to his |
---|
30 | 31 | | colleagues and mentored generations of younger lawyers; and |

31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, An inaugural Fellow of the American College of |

32 | 33 | | Environmental Lawyers, Mr. Golemon was named in 2016 as 1 of 24 |

33 | 34 | | "environmental pioneers" by the Environmental Law Institute; and |

34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Active in the community at large, Mr. Golemon serves |

35 | 36 | | on the executive committee of the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans |

36 | 37 | | Monument and on the advisory boards of the Ronald McDonald House and |

37 | 38 | | the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center for Energy, Law and Business at The |

38 | 39 | | University of Texas at Austin; and |

39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Kinnan Golemon has made immeasurable contributions |

40 | 41 | | in his field, and it is indeed a pleasure to join with him in |

41 | 42 | | celebrating a major milestone in his exceptional career; now, |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
