45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Kinnan Golemon, a nationally recognized figure in
67 the field of environmental, natural resources, and energy law, is
78 to be congratulated on a distinguished career that, as of 2017, has
89 spanned 50 years; and
910 WHEREAS, After earning a degree in industrial management
1011 engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1961, Mr. Golemon
1112 joined the U.S. Marine Corps and remained on active duty until 1964,
1213 serving in Cuba, Okinawa, Taiwan, and Vietnam; he completed his
1314 service with the corps in 1969 at the rank of captain; and
1415 WHEREAS, While attending The University of Texas School of
1516 Law, Mr. Golemon worked for the Texas Water Pollution Control
1617 Board, and after graduating in 1967, he embarked on a career as an
1718 environmental lawyer; he went on to practice for 30 years with the
1819 firm of Brown McCarroll in Austin, and in 2008 he became the founder
1920 and president of a consulting firm, KG Strategies; and
2021 WHEREAS, For the past half century, Mr. Golemon has provided
2122 expert professional advice to the legislature and others on a wide
2223 variety of complex environmental, energy, natural resources, and
2324 economic issues; as general counsel for the Texas Chemical Council
2425 from 1992 to 2006, he represented approximately 80 chemical
2526 manufacturers; he has also chaired the State Bar of Texas
2627 Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section, as well as the
2728 American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy, and
2829 Resources and the ABA Standing Committee on Environmental Law; in
2930 addition, he has given generously of his time and energies to his
3031 colleagues and mentored generations of younger lawyers; and
3132 WHEREAS, An inaugural Fellow of the American College of
3233 Environmental Lawyers, Mr. Golemon was named in 2016 as 1 of 24
3334 "environmental pioneers" by the Environmental Law Institute; and
3435 WHEREAS, Active in the community at large, Mr. Golemon serves
3536 on the executive committee of the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans
3637 Monument and on the advisory boards of the Ronald McDonald House and
3738 the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center for Energy, Law and Business at The
3839 University of Texas at Austin; and
3940 WHEREAS, Kinnan Golemon has made immeasurable contributions
4041 in his field, and it is indeed a pleasure to join with him in
4142 celebrating a major milestone in his exceptional career; now,
4243 therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4445 Legislature hereby honor attorney and consultant Kinnan Golemon as
4546 he marks five decades of eminent professional service and extend to
4647 him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4748 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4849 prepared for Mr. Golemon as an expression of high regard by the
4950 Texas House of Representatives.
