45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Julia Yost, a fifth grader at Armstrong Elementary
67 School in Dallas, won a $5,000 scholarship by competing in the Ford
78 Fast Track Races in October 2016; and
89 WHEREAS, Designed to inspire girls to pursue careers in
910 science, technology, engineering, and math, the event is sponsored
1011 by the Ford Motor Company in partnership with four Girl Scout
1112 councils from around the country; and
1213 WHEREAS, Julia Yost was selected by Ford to represent the
1314 Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas at the races, where she competed
1415 against Scouts from the other three councils; the contest showcased
1516 the participants' math and science skills by requiring them to
1617 design and build a wooden car; the vehicles were then put to the
1718 test in a race that was broadcast on the Today Show, and Julia's car
1819 bested the others to finish in first place; and
1920 WHEREAS, Through her participation in the Ford Fast Track
2021 Races, Julia Yost has set an inspiring example for young girls in
2122 her community and throughout the nation, and she is indeed
2223 deserving of recognition for her achievement; now, therefore, be it
2324 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2425 Legislature hereby congratulate Julia Yost for her outstanding
2526 showing in the Ford Fast Track Races and extend to her sincere best
2627 wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors; and, be
2728 it further
2829 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2930 prepared for Julia as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3031 House of Representatives.
