| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Gilbert Robinson retired from the |

| 6 | 7 | | Galveston Fire Department on February 24, 2017, drawing to a close a |

| 7 | 8 | | notable career that spanned 36 years; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, After joining the department in 1981, Chief Robinson |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | was promoted to assistant fire marshal in 2000 and fire marshal in |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | 2001; that same year, he became chief of the Fire Prevention and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Arson Division, a position he held until his retirement; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, During his service with the GFD, Chief Robinson |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | earned credentials as a peace officer, instructor, and arson |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | investigator and received training in a wide range of areas, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | including juvenile firesetter prevention, critical incident stress |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | management, aircraft rescue, bomb identification, gang activity, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | and department leadership; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Chief Robinson has served his professional |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | community as a fire commissioner for the State of Texas and as |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | president of the Galveston Firefighters Local 571, and he played a |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | key role in the Texas Commission of Fire Protection King Fest |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Celebration; in 2005, he organized the Greater Houston Fire |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Marshal's Council, which he led as chair of the board; he is |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | currently a member of the Coastal Community Federal Credit Union |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Board of Directors and of Amity Lodge No. 4; in all his endeavors, |

| 26 | 27 | | he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Gia, and his daughter, |

| 27 | 28 | | Giana; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Robinson's commitment to the highest ideals |

| 29 | 30 | | of his profession has helped the Galveston Fire Department deliver |

| 30 | 31 | | exceptional services to local residents, and he may indeed reflect |

| 31 | 32 | | with pride on his contributions to his community and the State of |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
