45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Gilbert Robinson retired from the
67 Galveston Fire Department on February 24, 2017, drawing to a close a
78 notable career that spanned 36 years; and
89 WHEREAS, After joining the department in 1981, Chief Robinson
910 was promoted to assistant fire marshal in 2000 and fire marshal in
1011 2001; that same year, he became chief of the Fire Prevention and
1112 Arson Division, a position he held until his retirement; and
1213 WHEREAS, During his service with the GFD, Chief Robinson
1314 earned credentials as a peace officer, instructor, and arson
1415 investigator and received training in a wide range of areas,
1516 including juvenile firesetter prevention, critical incident stress
1617 management, aircraft rescue, bomb identification, gang activity,
1718 and department leadership; and
1819 WHEREAS, Chief Robinson has served his professional
1920 community as a fire commissioner for the State of Texas and as
2021 president of the Galveston Firefighters Local 571, and he played a
2122 key role in the Texas Commission of Fire Protection King Fest
2223 Celebration; in 2005, he organized the Greater Houston Fire
2324 Marshal's Council, which he led as chair of the board; he is
2425 currently a member of the Coastal Community Federal Credit Union
2526 Board of Directors and of Amity Lodge No. 4; in all his endeavors,
2627 he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Gia, and his daughter,
2728 Giana; and
2829 WHEREAS, Gilbert Robinson's commitment to the highest ideals
2930 of his profession has helped the Galveston Fire Department deliver
3031 exceptional services to local residents, and he may indeed reflect
3132 with pride on his contributions to his community and the State of
3233 Texas; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby congratulate Assistant Chief Gilbert Robinson
3536 on his retirement from the Galveston Fire Department and extend to
3637 him sincere best wishes as he embarks on the next exciting chapter
3738 of his life; and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3940 prepared for Chief Robinson as an expression of high regard by the
4041 Texas House of Representatives.
