| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, César Chávez devoted his life to the pursuit of |

| 9 | 10 | | social and economic justice for farmworkers through nonviolent |

| 10 | 11 | | means; he helped found the National Farm Workers Association, a |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | forerunner of the United Farm Workers, and organized strikes, |

| 12 | 13 | | pickets, and boycotts to draw national attention to the unhealthy |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | working and living conditions endured by those who tend the fields; |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Coastal Bend César Chávez Committee is dedicated |

| 16 | 17 | | to educating and inspiring generations of South Texans by |

| 17 | 18 | | celebrating and advancing the legacy of César Chávez; the |

| 18 | 19 | | organization's 18th annual march coincides with its César Chávez |

| 19 | 20 | | state holiday celebration and follows the official Texas holiday, |

| 20 | 21 | | César Chávez Day, on March 31, 2017; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, By bringing the community together to pay tribute to |

| 22 | 23 | | the life and achievements of César Chávez, the Coastal Bend César |

| 23 | 24 | | Chávez Committee embodies the spirit of the movement he led, and it |

| 24 | 25 | | is indeed fitting to recognize the organization's important |
