H.R. No. 954
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Coastal Bend César Chávez Committee is
sponsoring its annual César Chávez Marcha in Corpus Christi on
April 1, 2017; and
WHEREAS, César Chávez devoted his life to the pursuit of
social and economic justice for farmworkers through nonviolent
means; he helped found the National Farm Workers Association, a
forerunner of the United Farm Workers, and organized strikes,
pickets, and boycotts to draw national attention to the unhealthy
working and living conditions endured by those who tend the fields;
and
WHEREAS, The Coastal Bend César Chávez Committee is dedicated
to educating and inspiring generations of South Texans by
celebrating and advancing the legacy of César Chávez; the
organization's 18th annual march coincides with its César Chávez
state holiday celebration and follows the official Texas holiday,
César Chávez Day, on March 31, 2017; and
WHEREAS, By bringing the community together to pay tribute to
the life and achievements of César Chávez, the Coastal Bend César
Chávez Committee embodies the spirit of the movement he led, and it
is indeed fitting to recognize the organization's important
efforts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the Coastal Bend César Chávez
Committee's 18th annual César Chávez Marcha and extend sincere best
wishes to its organizers and participants for a meaningful and
memorable event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Coastal Bend César Chávez Committee as an
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
