| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. John Graham Compton retired from medical |

| 6 | 7 | | practice in 2017, after more than 60 years of service to the |

| 7 | 8 | | community of Waxahachie; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on January 21, 1926, John Compton |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | graduated as valedictorian of his high school and subsequently |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | served in the United States Navy as an operating room technician; he |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | later attended Baylor University and The University of Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Medical School in Galveston, and he interned at the U.S. Public |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Health Service Hospital in Rockville, Maryland, on the way to |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | obtaining his medical diploma in 1954; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Compton opened his practice in Waxahachie the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | following year, and he went on to earn a stellar reputation for his |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | caring and friendly manner and the respectful way he treated |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | everyone who walked through his door; over the course of his career, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | he became the beloved physician of generations of area families, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | and he endeared himself to his staff as well, with his warmth and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | wonderful sense of humor; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his work in private practice, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Dr. Compton has served as the chief of staff at Waxahachie |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Sanitarium, as the medical director of Renfro Healthcare Center, as |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | a staff doctor at Baylor Hospital, and as head of the Ellis County |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Medical Health Department; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, While studying at Baylor, Dr. Compton met the love |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | of his life, the former Evelyn Lynette Stahl, and they enjoyed 58 |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | years of marriage before her passing in 2007; a devoted father, he |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | takes great pride in his three children, Graham, Debbie, and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Deannie; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Dr. John Compton's compassion and dedication to the |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | highest standards of his profession have touched the lives of |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | countless Waxahachie residents throughout his long and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | accomplished career in medicine, and he has earned the lasting |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | gratitude and affection of all who know him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. John Graham Compton on his |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | retirement and commend him for his six decades of service to the |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | Waxahachie community; and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
