H.R. No. 978 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Dr. John Graham Compton retired from medical practice in 2017, after more than 60 years of service to the community of Waxahachie; and WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on January 21, 1926, John Compton graduated as valedictorian of his high school and subsequently served in the United States Navy as an operating room technician; he later attended Baylor University and The University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, and he interned at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Rockville, Maryland, on the way to obtaining his medical diploma in 1954; and WHEREAS, Dr. Compton opened his practice in Waxahachie the following year, and he went on to earn a stellar reputation for his caring and friendly manner and the respectful way he treated everyone who walked through his door; over the course of his career, he became the beloved physician of generations of area families, and he endeared himself to his staff as well, with his warmth and wonderful sense of humor; and WHEREAS, In addition to his work in private practice, Dr. Compton has served as the chief of staff at Waxahachie Sanitarium, as the medical director of Renfro Healthcare Center, as a staff doctor at Baylor Hospital, and as head of the Ellis County Medical Health Department; and WHEREAS, While studying at Baylor, Dr. Compton met the love of his life, the former Evelyn Lynette Stahl, and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage before her passing in 2007; a devoted father, he takes great pride in his three children, Graham, Debbie, and Deannie; and WHEREAS, Dr. John Compton's compassion and dedication to the highest standards of his profession have touched the lives of countless Waxahachie residents throughout his long and accomplished career in medicine, and he has earned the lasting gratitude and affection of all who know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. John Graham Compton on his retirement and commend him for his six decades of service to the Waxahachie community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Compton as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
