| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Terry Mills of Corpus Christi is being recognized by |

| 7 | 8 | | Community Leadership Award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on |

| 8 | 9 | | April 28, 2017; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Created in 1990, this honor is annually presented to |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | individuals and organizations that have contributed to their |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | communities through their work in combating crime, terrorism, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | drugs, and violence; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Mills has served as president of the Corpus |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Christi chapter of the NAACP since 2009, and he is also the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | organization's area coordinator for the Rio Grande Valley and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Nueces County; throughout his tenure, he has tirelessly advocated |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | for civil rights and supported education and youth outreach |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | initiatives in the region; in 2016, he brought together law |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | enforcement agencies, including the FBI, with local organizations, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | businesses, and schools for a youth summit, which was attended by |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | more than 4,000 area high school students; participating agencies |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | discussed a range of topics, including domestic violence, hate |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | crimes, and religious and cultural differences; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Terry Mills has done much to bring progress and |

| 25 | 26 | | positive change to the region, and his efforts have produced |

| 26 | 27 | | results of lasting benefit to countless Texans; now, therefore, be |
