H.R. No. 982 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Terry Mills of Corpus Christi is being recognized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with a 2016 Director's Community Leadership Award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on April 28, 2017; and WHEREAS, Created in 1990, this honor is annually presented to individuals and organizations that have contributed to their communities through their work in combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and violence; and WHEREAS, Mr. Mills has served as president of the Corpus Christi chapter of the NAACP since 2009, and he is also the organization's area coordinator for the Rio Grande Valley and Nueces County; throughout his tenure, he has tirelessly advocated for civil rights and supported education and youth outreach initiatives in the region; in 2016, he brought together law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, with local organizations, businesses, and schools for a youth summit, which was attended by more than 4,000 area high school students; participating agencies discussed a range of topics, including domestic violence, hate crimes, and religious and cultural differences; and WHEREAS, Terry Mills has done much to bring progress and positive change to the region, and his efforts have produced results of lasting benefit to countless Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Terry Mills on his receipt of a 2016 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Mills as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
