| 15 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 16 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 152.905, Local Government Code, is |
|---|
| 17 | 10 | | amended by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: |

| 18 | 11 | | (e) This subsection applies only to a county auditor or |
|---|
| 19 | 12 | | assistant auditor appointed to serve a county located on an |
|---|
| 20 | 13 | | international border that has a population of less than 300,000 and |
|---|
| 21 | 14 | | contains one or more municipalities with a population of 200,000 or |
|---|
| 22 | 15 | | more. In setting the compensation for a county auditor or assistant |
|---|
| 23 | 16 | | auditor considered at a hearing under this section, the district |
|---|
| 24 | 17 | | judge or judges may not set the amount of compensation in an amount |
|---|
| 25 | 18 | | that is inconsistent with a wage and position classification plan |
|---|
| 26 | 19 | | adopted by the county. |

| 27 | 20 | | SECTION 2. For a county auditor or assistant auditor |
|---|
| 28 | 21 | | appointed before the effective date of this Act whose compensation |
|---|
| 29 | 22 | | does not conform to the person's position classification as |
|---|
| 30 | 23 | | provided by a wage and position classification plan adopted by the |
|---|
| 31 | 24 | | county that the person serves, the district judge or judges, in |
|---|
| 32 | 25 | | subsequent hearings setting the person's annual compensation, |
|---|
| 33 | 26 | | shall, without reducing the person's annual compensation, align the |
|---|
| 34 | 27 | | person's compensation with the wage and position classification |
|---|
| 35 | 28 | | plan adopted by the county. |
|---|
| 36 | 29 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
