55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the eligibility of certain persons younger than 18
88 years of age to preregister to vote.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 13.001(b), Election Code, is amended to
1111 read as follows:
1212 (b) To be eligible to apply for registration, a person must,
1313 on the date the registration application is submitted to the
1414 registrar, be at least 15 [17] years [and 10 months] of age and
1515 satisfy the requirements of Subsection (a) except for age.
1616 SECTION 2. Section 521.222, Transportation Code, is amended
1717 by adding Subsection (i) to read as follows:
1818 (i) At the time the department issues a learner license to a
1919 person described by Subsection (a), the department shall inform the
2020 person that the person may be eligible to apply for registration to
2121 vote under Section 13.001, Election Code.
2222 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
