| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 13.001(b), Election Code, is amended to | |
| 11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (b) To be eligible to apply for registration, a person must, | |
| 13 | 13 | on the date the registration application is submitted to the | |
| 14 | 14 | registrar, be at least 15 [17] years [and 10 months] of age and | |
| 15 | 15 | satisfy the requirements of Subsection (a) except for age. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. Section 521.222, Transportation Code, is amended | |
| 17 | 17 | by adding Subsection (i) to read as follows: | |
| 18 | 18 | (i) At the time the department issues a learner license to a | |
| 19 | 19 | person described by Subsection (a), the department shall inform the | |
| 20 | 20 | person that the person may be eligible to apply for registration to | |
| 21 | 21 | vote under Section 13.001, Election Code. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
