115 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
126 AN ACT
137 relating to the use of connected braking systems to maintain
148 distance between vehicles.
159 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1610 SECTION 1. Section 545.062, Transportation Code, is amended
1711 by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
1812 (d) An operator of a vehicle equipped with a connected
1913 braking system that is following another vehicle equipped with that
2014 system may be assisted by the system to maintain an assured clear
2115 distance or sufficient space as required by this section. In this
2216 subsection, "connected braking system" means a system by which the
2317 braking of one vehicle is electronically coordinated with the
2418 braking system of a following vehicle.
25- SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
26- a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
27- provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
28- Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
29- Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
