| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 6 | | passing of U.S. Army Colonel (Ret.) Dennis H. Boerner of College |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Station on November 19, 2016, at the age of 81; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Fred and Mary Boerner, Dennis Boerner was |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | born on January 10, 1935, in Orange Grove and grew up with a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | brother, Fred, and a sister, Evelyn; after graduating from Orange |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Grove High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in business from |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | St. Mary's University, and he later received a master's degree in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | business administration from the George Washington University; in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1956, he answered his nation's call to duty and joined the United |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | States Army, serving as an artillery officer, an aviator, and a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | nuclear chemical target analyst; during his exemplary 30-year |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | military career, he was twice deployed to Vietnam, and his |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | additional overseas tours included stints in Germany and Korea; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | after returning stateside, he proudly served at the Pentagon; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan retired from the army in 1986, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | having garnered the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Medal with oak leaf cluster, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Gallantry; he went on to build with his own hands a beautiful home |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | among the pine trees of East Texas, where he enjoyed rebuilding |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | antique cars in his spare time and served the community in numerous |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | ways, including as a volunteer with the Right to Life movement and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | as an active member of the Republican Party, both as a candidate and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | as a strong supporter of fellow conservative candidates; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Boerner was joined in matrimony to the former |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Margaret "Maggie" Humes, and they shared a rewarding marriage that |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | spanned nearly six decades; over the years, the couple had the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | pleasure of watching their family grow to include four children, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Kelly Kastner and her husband, David, Monica Boerner, Connie |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Bingham and her husband, Michael, and Benedict Boerner and his |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | wife, Denise, as well as nine grandchildren, Megan, Chris, |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Marshall, Alyson, Rachel, Ryan, Reagan, Chloe, and Marshall, and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | four great-grandchildren, Bryn, Bristol, Brody, and Caroline; and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his faith, his family, and his |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | country, Dennis Boerner lived a life that was rich in the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | intangibles that matter most, and he leaves behind a record of |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | service that will continue to inspire all those who had the good |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dennis H. Boerner and extend |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of |
|---|
