S.C.R. No. 45 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of U.S. Army Colonel (Ret.) Dennis H. Boerner of College Station on November 19, 2016, at the age of 81; and WHEREAS, The son of Fred and Mary Boerner, Dennis Boerner was born on January 10, 1935, in Orange Grove and grew up with a brother, Fred, and a sister, Evelyn; after graduating from Orange Grove High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in business from St. Mary's University, and he later received a master's degree in business administration from the George Washington University; in 1956, he answered his nation's call to duty and joined the United States Army, serving as an artillery officer, an aviator, and a nuclear chemical target analyst; during his exemplary 30-year military career, he was twice deployed to Vietnam, and his additional overseas tours included stints in Germany and Korea; after returning stateside, he proudly served at the Pentagon; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan retired from the army in 1986, having garnered the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry; he went on to build with his own hands a beautiful home among the pine trees of East Texas, where he enjoyed rebuilding antique cars in his spare time and served the community in numerous ways, including as a volunteer with the Right to Life movement and as an active member of the Republican Party, both as a candidate and as a strong supporter of fellow conservative candidates; and WHEREAS, Mr. Boerner was joined in matrimony to the former Margaret "Maggie" Humes, and they shared a rewarding marriage that spanned nearly six decades; over the years, the couple had the pleasure of watching their family grow to include four children, Kelly Kastner and her husband, David, Monica Boerner, Connie Bingham and her husband, Michael, and Benedict Boerner and his wife, Denise, as well as nine grandchildren, Megan, Chris, Marshall, Alyson, Rachel, Ryan, Reagan, Chloe, and Marshall, and four great-grandchildren, Bryn, Bristol, Brody, and Caroline; and WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his faith, his family, and his country, Dennis Boerner lived a life that was rich in the intangibles that matter most, and he leaves behind a record of service that will continue to inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dennis H. Boerner and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of Dennis Boerner. ______________________________ ______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I hereby certify that S.C.R.
