| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize San Jacinto County on the occasion of the signing of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the Community Wildfire Protection Plan, which takes place on |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | February 14, 2017; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Since 80 percent of wildfires start within two |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | miles of communities, it is vital to the safety of citizens that |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | communities near forests have plans in place to prevent wildfires |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and to mitigate wildfires when they occur; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, San Jacinto County is the 18th Texas county to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | pioneer new standards in safety by implementing a local fire |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | prevention plan under the advisement of the Texas A&M Forest |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Service; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Local volunteer firefighters worked with the forest |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | service to assess specific risks in the area, and community |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | members joined the effort to create and finalize the protection |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | plan; the team of volunteers also dedicated numerous hours to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | educating the public on the new prevention and mitigation |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | strategies; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Community Wildfire Protection Plan will help to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of San Jacinto |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | County and the protection of Sam Houston National Forest, and it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | will serve as a model for other Texas counties to follow; now, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend all who helped create the San Jacinto |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | County Community Wildfire Protection Plan for their efforts to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | keep their fellow citizens safe and to preserve the natural |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | beauty of the Lone Star State; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
