SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 10 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize San Jacinto County on the occasion of the signing of the Community Wildfire Protection Plan, which takes place on February 14, 2017; and WHEREAS, Since 80 percent of wildfires start within two miles of communities, it is vital to the safety of citizens that communities near forests have plans in place to prevent wildfires and to mitigate wildfires when they occur; and WHEREAS, San Jacinto County is the 18th Texas county to pioneer new standards in safety by implementing a local fire prevention plan under the advisement of the Texas A&M Forest Service; and WHEREAS, Local volunteer firefighters worked with the forest service to assess specific risks in the area, and community members joined the effort to create and finalize the protection plan; the team of volunteers also dedicated numerous hours to educating the public on the new prevention and mitigation strategies; and WHEREAS, The Community Wildfire Protection Plan will help to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of San Jacinto County and the protection of Sam Houston National Forest, and it will serve as a model for other Texas counties to follow; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend all who helped create the San Jacinto County Community Wildfire Protection Plan for their efforts to keep their fellow citizens safe and to preserve the natural beauty of the Lone Star State; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
