| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Roberto "El Primo" Pulido for his many contributions to |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the state's music industry; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Roberto Pulido is a native of Edinburg, and he has |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | been a leader in the Rio Grande Valley's music scene for many |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | years; he served as a music teacher for a time in the Pharr-San |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Juan-Alamo Independent School District before establishing the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | band Los Clasicos; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Under his direction, the band developed a unique |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | musical style that combined the traditional Tejano orchestral |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | brass sound with the accordion-based sound of conjunto, polka, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and cumbia; this innovative hybrid quickly became popular, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the band's single "Copa Tras Copa" achieved great success; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished career, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Roberto Pulido has produced more than 40 albums and performed in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | venues across the United States and Mexico; known affectionately |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to his fans as "El Primo," he has also produced and appeared in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | numerous music videos and television programs; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, He established the Roberto Pulido Music |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Scholarship Endowment Fund at The University of Texas--Pan |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | American and The University of Texas at Brownsville, and he has |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | been active in the City of Edinburg Christmas Toy Drive; he is |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | truly deserving of special recognition for his hard work and his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Roberto Pulido on his exemplary |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | contributions to the rich musical legacy of South Texas and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
