SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 127 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Roberto "El Primo" Pulido for his many contributions to the state's music industry; and WHEREAS, Roberto Pulido is a native of Edinburg, and he has been a leader in the Rio Grande Valley's music scene for many years; he served as a music teacher for a time in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District before establishing the band Los Clasicos; and WHEREAS, Under his direction, the band developed a unique musical style that combined the traditional Tejano orchestral brass sound with the accordion-based sound of conjunto, polka, and cumbia; this innovative hybrid quickly became popular, and the band's single "Copa Tras Copa" achieved great success; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished career, Roberto Pulido has produced more than 40 albums and performed in venues across the United States and Mexico; known affectionately to his fans as "El Primo," he has also produced and appeared in numerous music videos and television programs; and WHEREAS, He established the Roberto Pulido Music Scholarship Endowment Fund at The University of Texas--Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville, and he has been active in the City of Edinburg Christmas Toy Drive; he is truly deserving of special recognition for his hard work and his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend Roberto Pulido on his exemplary contributions to the rich musical legacy of South Texas and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
