                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 189
 In Memory
 of
 John William Wiesner Jr.
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of John William Wiesner Jr., who died
 January 26, 2017, at the age of 88; and
 WHEREAS, John Wiesner was born on February 28, 1929, in
 Richmond, to John William and Marie Hajek Wiesner; he grew up in
 Hempstead and earned a degree in marketing from Southern
 Methodist University; and
 WHEREAS, He was married to the late Elizabeth Sorsby
 Wiesner for 64 years; the couple was blessed with three sons and
 numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, His long and distinguished career in the
 automobile industry began in 1954 when he purchased his first
 dealership; in 1972, he acquired the Buick-GMC franchise in
 Conroe, which still serves as the flagship location for the
 Wiesner Auto Group dealerships in Huntsville, Tomball, and
 Rosenberg; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Wiesner was active in a wide range of civic
 and philanthropic organizations, including the Conroe-Lake
 Conroe and The Woodlands Area Chambers of Commerce, the Conroe
 Symphony Orchestra, and the Rotary Club of Conroe; he was
 instrumental in the establishment of the Lone Star College System
 in Montgomery County, and he received numerous awards for his
 service to the community; he earned the high honor of 32nd degree
 of the Scottish Rite and was a member of the Arabian Temple and
 Shiners in Houston; and
 WHEREAS, A man of vision and compassion, he gave
 unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, his generous spirit, and
 his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
 forgotten; and
 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
 family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of John William Wiesner Jr.; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of John William Wiesner Jr.
