| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Members of First United Methodist Church in |

| 3 | 3 | | Daingerfield gathered on September 18, 2016, to celebrate 170 |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | years of worship in that community; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, By 1846, a 40-acre site near Daingerfield was |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | known as the Methodist campground; in 1856, a Methodist church |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | was organized by Molly Beaver, a longtime Daingerfield school |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | teacher, and that same year, members of the congregation erected |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | a church building; that sanctuary and two others over the years |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | were destroyed by fire, but the parishioners of First United |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Methodist surmounted each crisis; today, as throughout its |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | history, the church plays a vital role in the community, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | providing its members with myriad opportunities for spiritual |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | growth, fellowship, and outreach; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, From its inception, First United Methodist has |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | benefited from the able leadership of many dedicated ministers, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and that tradition of service is now continued by Pastor Dan |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Gilliam, who assumed the pulpit there in 2010; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, For well over a century and a half, Daingerfield |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | residents have found in First United Methodist Church a caring, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | supportive community, one that stands with them in times of joy |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and sorrow, that helps them put their faith into practice, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | that enriches immeasurably their life's journey; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate 170 years of Methodist worship |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | in Daingerfield and extend to the members of First United |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Methodist Church sincere best wishes for the future; and, be |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 31 | 31 | | the church as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
