| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Honorable Bascom W. Bentley III, who is being |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | honored for his lifetime achievements by the Palestine High |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | School Alumni Association on January 27, 2017; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Bascom Bentley graduated from Palestine High |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | School in 1969, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | business administration from The University of Texas and a law |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | degree from the University of Houston; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, In February of 1977, Mr. Bentley was licensed by |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the State Bar of Texas, and later that same year, he began serving |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | as both the city attorney for Palestine and the county attorney |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | for Anderson County; he was appointed district judge of the 369th |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Judicial District by Governor William P. Clements on September 1, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 1989; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In addition to serving on the bench and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | contributing to numerous professional associations, Judge |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Bentley has been dedicated to his work as a community advocate |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and has been honored on several occasions for his extensive |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | charitable service on behalf of the needy and for his outstanding |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | support of local veterans; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Judge Bascom Bentley is a revered member of his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | community who exemplifies the highest standards of judicial and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | community service, and it is indeed fitting that he is being |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | honored as a distinguished alumnus of Palestine High School; now, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Honorable Bascom W. Bentley III |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | for his many contributions to his community and to the state and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | extend to him best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be |
|---|
