SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 26 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Honorable Bascom W. Bentley III, who is being honored for his lifetime achievements by the Palestine High School Alumni Association on January 27, 2017; and WHEREAS, Bascom Bentley graduated from Palestine High School in 1969, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business administration from The University of Texas and a law degree from the University of Houston; and WHEREAS, In February of 1977, Mr. Bentley was licensed by the State Bar of Texas, and later that same year, he began serving as both the city attorney for Palestine and the county attorney for Anderson County; he was appointed district judge of the 369th Judicial District by Governor William P. Clements on September 1, 1989; and WHEREAS, In addition to serving on the bench and contributing to numerous professional associations, Judge Bentley has been dedicated to his work as a community advocate and has been honored on several occasions for his extensive charitable service on behalf of the needy and for his outstanding support of local veterans; and WHEREAS, Judge Bascom Bentley is a revered member of his community who exemplifies the highest standards of judicial and community service, and it is indeed fitting that he is being honored as a distinguished alumnus of Palestine High School; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend the Honorable Bascom W. Bentley III for his many contributions to his community and to the state and extend to him best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
