| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize K. R. Wood on the occasion of the release of his new |

| 4 | 4 | | album, Songs and Tales of the Old Chisholm Trail; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This recording was inspired by the legends of the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | cattle drives along the Old Chisholm Trail; those drives were one |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of the largest migrations of animals ever known, and they laid |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the foundation for the state's successful cattle ranching |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | industry and its rise out of post-Civil War poverty; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The release of Songs and Tales of the Old Chisholm |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Trail coincides with the 150th anniversary of the first cattle |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | drive up the Old Chisholm Trail and recognizes the contributions |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and sacrifices of the men and women who made those historic |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | journeys; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In addition to original music from K. R. Wood, the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | album also features traditional songs from the era, original |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | poetry by Geoff Shaffer, and appearances by a wide range of noted |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Texas musicians, including Michael Martin Murphey, Gary P. Nunn, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Ray Benson, Red Steagall, and many others; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, K. R. Wood has made an important contribution to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the American identity by capturing the spirit and essence of one |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of the nation's enduring legends, the cattle drive, and he is |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | truly deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend K. R. Wood on his musical |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | achievements and extend to him best wishes for the success of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Songs and Tales of the Old Chisholm Trail; and, be it further |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
