SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 260 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize K. R. Wood on the occasion of the release of his new album, Songs and Tales of the Old Chisholm Trail; and WHEREAS, This recording was inspired by the legends of the cattle drives along the Old Chisholm Trail; those drives were one of the largest migrations of animals ever known, and they laid the foundation for the state's successful cattle ranching industry and its rise out of post-Civil War poverty; and WHEREAS, The release of Songs and Tales of the Old Chisholm Trail coincides with the 150th anniversary of the first cattle drive up the Old Chisholm Trail and recognizes the contributions and sacrifices of the men and women who made those historic journeys; and WHEREAS, In addition to original music from K. R. Wood, the album also features traditional songs from the era, original poetry by Geoff Shaffer, and appearances by a wide range of noted Texas musicians, including Michael Martin Murphey, Gary P. Nunn, Ray Benson, Red Steagall, and many others; and WHEREAS, K. R. Wood has made an important contribution to the American identity by capturing the spirit and essence of one of the nation's enduring legends, the cattle drive, and he is truly deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend K.
